P52 Week 8…self portrait…eek!

This week’s theme is self portrait. . I definitely cringed at this topic for a few reasons. Reason one,  I am NOT a giant fan of being in front of the camera. However, since I know I don’t like it I’m trying to push myself to do it more often, otherwise my children will have thousands of great pictures of themselves, them with their friends, their events, but nothing of their mother {which I can relate to because my mother never wanted to be in the pictures either as we were growing up..hmm, I come by it honestly then ;) } . I know they will want pictures of me for themselves and thier own children in the future, and they will love them wether they are unflattering pictures or not.

The other reason I cringed was that I do not have a remote for my camera, so taking a self portrait involves lots of running back and forth, setting the timer, trying to get into the correct position, head tilt, light changes, focus, etc….exhausting and often very very frustrating. The only other way to get a self portrait that doesn’t require me to run all over the place is to recruit my children to take it. This requires me to give up control over the picture entirely!

Now both of my girls are really starting to know their way around my camera since I use it all the time and help them learn about it too since I love it, but they are also old enough to have their own “creative vision” which sometimes conflicts with my own :) …teenagers. This week youngest decided to help me out with the “self-protrait” so I didn’t have to keep jumping the sofa, which she told me wasn’t going to end well! I couldn’t get the settings exactly where I wanted them and some of the focus is a bit soft but overall I think she did a great job and I look ok after a long day of work lol!! :)

Cakepops and donut holes!

One of the unique gifts my daughter received for her birthday was a cakepop maker from my sister. My daughter was uncertain about this because it was not something she had put on her “list”, however this morning she opened the package, found the recipe for “French puff donuts” and proceeded to make up a batch :)  They turned out delicious and were super simple to make!

Her little sister said it was the best present ever, now if she could just convince me to set up a candy bar, her sister to make donut holes, her dad to walk the dog she would be living a dream morning lol :) !

P52 Week 7 “Red Hot”

Today is my oldest’s 13th bday, that sounds ridiculously old to me!

She has developed a love affair with red velvet cake but is torn every year because of her love for cheesecake. I was looking for recipe ideas when the foodnetwork.com email for Valentine’s day recipe caught my eye…low and behold a recipe for red velvet cheesecake! Perfect! I showed oldest, she confirmed so I was committed. The only thing is I don’t like cheesecake, never have, doubt I ever will, so I have never in my life made a cheesecake before!! I gave it my best effort! Here are my in progress shots at making this cheesecake while using my awsome “red hot” mixer…

I’ll have to get back to you on wether or not it works cuz bday girl has to give me the final word after skating the night away!!!

{I made some googly eye chocolate cupcakes as back ups just in case! :) }

Update: Red velevet cheesecake is a hit! According to the cheescake connoisseurs in this household; it is now the requested birthday dessert for their foreseeable future ;)

P52 Week 6 “Culture”

This weeks project 52 was challenging for a variety of reasons. The theme this week was culture, which in itself opens up a lot of ideas but most of the ideas I originally came up with would take quite a bit of planning and unfortunately I was a bit under the weather this week. Of course this came on a week when we had a bazillion and two different commitments ;) but I’m finally feeling a bit better, looking forward to a relaxing Sunday, and deciding to go with “American School Culture” because it is such a big part of my life!

I wanted to do a vintage type post processing because for as much as education has changed, somethings remain the same in American school culture: academic challenges, learning, comradery, competition..the list goes on!

Super Bowl or Puppy Bowl 2012???

Since the Packers didn’t make it this year into the Superbowl my girls have little interest in watching the game Sunday; instead they are debating over how much of the “Puppy Bowl” on Animal Planet should be watched as well as what should be on the “Super Bowl Dinner” menu in addition to the honey bbq chicken wings they both agree on {yep, not caring for the game itself, it’s all about the food ;) } I guess I have to go mediate that discussion :) Have a great game day!

Project 12: The Way I view…..”Beginnings” (January)

This post kicks off the Project 12 created by members of Clickin Moms, a fantastc photography forum I’m a part of! I’ve been putting together some images for the month of January. The theme “beginnings” took on a lot of different things for me and my family, take a peek at the way I view “beginnings”:
